New COST Action “FuSe – Testing Fundamental Physics with Seismology”

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Aneta Wojnar from the Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Wrocław, has been awarded a prestigious European COST Action grant.

Researchers in relativity, geophysics, data science, and related fields are invited to join FuSe when the project formally begins in autumn 2025. Participation will offer unique opportunities for international collaboration, cutting-edge research at the intersection of physics and seismology, and involvement in the development of innovative theoretical and technological applications.

Starting in autumn 2025, Dr. Wojnar will serve as Chairperson of the newly established research network FuSe – Testing Fundamental Physics with Seismology, which unites 76 scientists from 29 countries across physics, seismology, planetary sciences, artificial intelligence, and Big Data. The University of Wrocław will act as the grant holder for this €600 000 project.

FuSe aims to bridge fundamental physics and Earth sciences by investigating seismic phenomena (including earthquake precursors) using state-of-the-art AI, machine learning, and large-scale data analysis. By exploring seismic data in the context of foundational physical laws, the network seeks to uncover potential signatures of previously unknown physics while deepening our understanding of Earth’s interior. This interdisciplinary effort may also pave the way for advanced earthquake forecasting technologies.
